So back in the days of Lync 2010, Microsoft designed a mobile app that could leverage the external access methods Lync provided natively. As we know, VPN connectivity is not recommended for any real-time media data packets. Traditionally, collaboration tools have been bound strictly within the corporate world, network and device and only extended outside with the use of VPN technology. The mobile app provides users with extended reach of their enterprise collaboration toolset beyond the boundaries of a corporate network or device.
